Deliberate discomfort or what I call intentional stress. Daily, I attempt to improve the skill that is resilience by intentionally causing the stress response in some domain with prepared strategies to effectively manage and eventually overcome that stressor. The more comfortable I can become when causing discomfort, the inevitable hardships of life become easier to manage.
Great stuff as always. Looking forward to listing to this one!
There are two main aspects that I remind myself of regularly, and try to help other people understand, though ironically I now also know I can't make anyone understand anything if they are not wanting or willing to.
1. Learning to discern what I can control.
A lot of people become very bitter because they think everyone should be doing what they , personally, want. Not only is that unrealistic, it's actually pretty egotistical when you actually stop and think about it.
2. I gained empathy by understanding most people cannot be empathetic about me or or my life experiences. People only know what they personally know, so this is also why, as the saying goes, what other people think of me is none of my business.
